The renovation and kalasamahotsava of the historical Thaliyil Temple, which is enriched by the gracious presence of Sri. Mahavishnu (Vadakkum Devar) along with Shasthavu and Ganapathy is being carried out after a gap of nearly 17 decades from 19th of February to 4th March 2009. There are a lot of mythologies existing regarding the establishment of Temple of Thaliyilappan which is believed to have come into existence with the initiative of the head of Nileshwaram Desam, one of the 64 villages of former Malayalakkara existed at one time years ago. This belief is carried away by generation to generation, that the Allada swaroopam which stretched from Olavara in the South to Chitharipuzha in the North came under the rule of Nileshwaram Raja hierarchy. Later on and it was consequent on an intuition raised in the mind of Amma Thampuratti of Nileshwaram Raja family in her sleep and also because of per mental divine enlightenment the Nileshwar Thaliyil Temple in the same replica of Kozhikode Thaliyil Shiva temple came in to existence at Nileshwar.
This Temple is also believed to be graced by the presence of Dakshinamoorthy on the southern wall of Sreekovil on the out skirts Ganapathy and Mahavishnu in the Vayukon. Out of this Mahavishnu Temple is given more importance than an upadevalaya (sub Temple). However Siva and Mahavishnu are given equal importance and are being worshipped in the same esteem in this Temple. Another strong belief that extent regarding the inception of the Temple was that Neelamaharshi who brought Sivalingam from Kasi after his rigorous meditation and after its holly dip in the Theertha of Lotus lake at Theerthankara and made an attempt place the Sivalingam in its vicinity, but due to the instruction the Bhargava Rama it was placed on the eastern bank of the river on the right side of the Mahavishnu, (Vadakkum Devar) and as such Vishnu Temple as considered to be historically important and older than Siva Temple. During the successive period this Temple was renovated by the rulers and named as Thaliyilappan and maintained as such. In accordance with observation of Astrologers the Mahavishnu Temple as to be reconstructed during the Kalasattam. Apart from the common rituals like five Nithya Pooja and three Seeveli, the Dhara and Niramala are the other attractions and offering carried out for placing the God.
